Utah Adventure Guide has no sign-up, no login, and no contact form. We do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number, and we have no database of visitors.
When you tap the heart on a card or write a note in the logbook, the site stores it in your browser’s local storage under ugFavs and ugNotes. Your chosen region is saved the same way under utahGuideRegion so the forecast bar remembers it next time.
This data stays in your browser. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else, and it is not a cookie used for tracking. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it, and doing so costs you nothing but your saved list.
The “Near me” button asks your browser for your location so the site can sort places by how far they are from you and show a distance on each card. Your browser will ask your permission first, and you can decline — the site works fine without it, sorted by region instead.
If you allow it, the coordinates are used inside your browser to calculate distances and are never sent to us or stored anywhere. They are gone when you close the tab.
We use GoatCounter to count page views so we know which parts of the guide people actually use. GoatCounter sets no cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect personal data. It records the page visited, the referring page, rough country-level location, and browser type.
Some parts of the guide are loaded from other services. When that happens, those services can see your IP address and basic browser information, the same as any site you visit directly. We do not share anything with them beyond what your browser sends automatically.
Loaded on the page: photographs from Wikimedia Commons; map tiles from OpenStreetMap; the mapping library from unpkg.com; and weather and sunrise data from Open-Meteo. The weather request includes the coordinates of the region you selected, not your own location.
Only when you click: Amazon, Google Maps, Polar (our tip jar), the Utah DWR, Utah State Parks, and Recreation.gov. Once you land on one of those, that company’s privacy policy governs what happens next.
As an Amazon Associate, Utah Adventure Guide earns from qualifying purchases. When you follow one of our gear links, Amazon sets its own cookie so it can attribute a purchase to this site. We never see who you are or what you bought — only an anonymous count of orders. The price you pay is exactly the same either way.
