Nights run cold up here - pack warm layers even in July.
Sunset and North look much the same on a map, but Sunset is the friendlier one for tents: two of its three loops turn away RVs and trailers entirely, and generators are confined to the RV loop. Spurs are gravel rather than paved, there are no hookups at any site, and the ponderosas give real shade at 8,000 feet. Flush toilets and drinking water are in the campground, but showers and laundry are a walk away at the general store.
Tip: Some of the darkest skies in America. Stay up late.
