The Needles is the far side of Canyonlands, a long drive around from Island in the Sky and effectively a separate park, and this is where you sleep if you want to be inside it at first light. Sites tuck in among the sandstone fins, which buys wind shelter and afternoon shade that a mesa-top camp never gets. Trailheads for Chesler Park and Druid Arch start within a couple of miles, so the long Needles loops become day hikes instead of overnight trips.
Tip: Dark-sky certified. The Milky Way is the nightly feature.
