Why Fish Here

Kaysville is the rare community water where you can launch something. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are all allowed, the ponds are open every day from sunrise to sunset, and swimming is not, so the water stays quiet. They sit on the USU Botanical Center property, which means nature trails between the ponds and a very different feel from a ballfield park. Leashed dogs are welcome, a fishing license is required, and the daily limit is two fish.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Bobber + worm; small jigs for gills

Bait and lures: Worms, mealworms, PowerBait

Best time: Evenings. Season: All year

Local tip: Three connected ponds - move until you find the school.

Rig: Carolina/sliding-sinker rig on bottom, circle hook

Bait: Nightcrawlers, chicken liver, hot dogs, stink bait, carp meat

THE kid fish. Pelican Lake grows bluegill the size of dinner plates.
