Why Fish Here

Vivian Park is a Utah County park nine miles up Provo Canyon on Highway 189, and the pond is the smallest part of it. The rest is pavilions, restrooms, a playground, volleyball courts and a connection to the Provo River Parkway Trail, which is why it works when half the group has no interest in fishing. The pond is stocked as a state community fishery, and the daily limit is two fish. Leashed dogs are fine here, unlike some of the valley ponds.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Bobber + worm - keep it simple

Bait and lures: Worms, PowerBait

Best time: Any time. Season: April-October

Local tip: Tiny stocked pond in Provo Canyon - ride the Heber Creeper train, catch a trout, picnic. Perfect first-fish spot.

Species Playbook

Bait: PowerBait (rainbow/garlic), nightcrawler, small spinners (Panther Martin, Jake's)

Utah's #1 fish. If a pond got stocked this week, cast anything shiny. Perfect first fish for kids.

Why fish Vivian Park Pond?
It is the easiest first fish in Utah County. One species, shallow water, a bobber and a worm, and a park with restrooms and a playground in the same lot when a five-year-old is done. The county lists the park as accessible, and the pond is small enough that kids can see where their line went.
