The number that makes this place land is six against one and a half. The San Juan travels over six miles through the bends below you while gaining only a mile and a half of westward progress, all of it 1,000 feet down. There are no developed trails inside the park, so this is a rim experience: you drive up, walk to the edge, and look. Eight primitive sites with fire rings and picnic tables sit along that rim, with vault toilets and nothing else, so haul in your own water and firewood.
