Why Target Them
Utah has exactly one real striped bass fishery, and Lake Powell is it. The guidebook puts no daily limit on striped bass anywhere in the state, so you never count fish or measure anything, and that changes how you fish. The state record, 48 pounds 11 ounces, came out of Powell in 1991, though most of the fish you meet travel in packs and run far smaller. First-timers see a boil and drive the boat into it; ease in and cast past the edge instead.
