Why Fish Here

This is short-cast water running right alongside the canyon road, which makes it the easiest trout creek to reach from Utah County. The Forest Service charges nothing for non-stop travel on the Alpine Scenic Loop or for gravel turnouts that are not part of a developed recreation site, so a quick stop needs no pass. Park at a developed site and you do need one. The road is narrow with blind curves and no trailers allowed, so take it slow.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Ultralight spinner or bubble + fly

Bait and lures: Small spinners, worms

Best time: Evening. Season: May-October

Local tip: Pocket water the whole canyon - every pullout holds fish.

Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout.
What is the best bait at American Fork Creek?
Small spinners, worms
When is the best time to fish American Fork Creek?
Evening. Season: May-October.
Why fish American Fork Creek?
Because it is trout water minutes from the valley floor, in a canyon that feels much farther out. The creek is a Utah Lake tributary, so all suckers you hook must go back immediately. Bring a pass if you plan to park at a developed site rather than a plain gravel turnout.
