Why Fish Here

Most Utah trout water makes you hunt for fish. Below the dam you are working on trout you can often see, which turns the whole day into a problem of presentation rather than searching. Keeping is limited: three trout, only two of them under 15 inches and one over 22, with everything between released. Section A allows no camping along the river, and the corridor requires a Flaming Gorge use pass or an accepted federal pass.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Dry-dropper from a drift boat; cicadas in June!

Bait and lures: Foam cicadas, scuds, worms after rain (artificials - check regs)

Best time: All day - 14,000 fish per mile. Season: April-October (cicada June)

Local tip: Below Flaming Gorge dam: gin-clear water, emerald banks, trout EVERYWHERE. Utah's bucket-list float.
