Why Fish Here

Lost Creek is a state park in name and almost nothing else. It sits about ten miles northeast of Croydon in Morgan County, and what you get is a boat ramp, a primitive campground and vault toilets. No hookups and no store. The reservoir is designated wakeless, so nobody is pulling a skier past your line, and that quiet is most of the reason to make the drive for cutthroat and rainbows.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Cast spoons or slip bobber + worm

Bait and lures: Worms, spoons, tube jigs

Best time: Morning. Season: May-October; good ice

Local tip: Quiet state-park water - cutts smash spoons at ice-off.

Species Playbook

Cutthroat Trout

Rig: Strawberry: white tube jig 15-30 ft; Bear Lake: troll minnow-profile lures

Bait: Tube jigs, dead minnows (where legal), dry flies in creeks

When: Morning bite is king; ice-off is legendary

The Bonneville cutthroat is Utah's state fish. Strawberry slot: release cutts 15-22 in.

Rainbow Trout

Rig: Slip-bobber or sliding sinker rig, 4 lb mono line, size 8-10 baitholder

Bait: PowerBait (rainbow/garlic), nightcrawler, small spinners (Panther Martin, Jake's)

When: Early morning & last 2 hours before dark

Utah's #1 fish. If a pond got stocked this week, cast anything shiny. Perfect first fish for kids.

Why fish Lost Creek Reservoir?
Lost Creek is the trade you make when you want a reservoir mostly to yourself. Plan on packing in everything, because the park is still close to undeveloped. Cutthroat and rainbows hit spoons hard right after ice-off, and the ice fishing later in the year holds up well enough to justify the drive.
