Why Target Them
Crappie are a schooling fish with a 50 a day limit in Utah, black and white crappie counted together, which is generous for a fish this good on a plate. The catch is that they move. Find brush, a submerged tree, a marina piling, and you find the whole school; miss by ten feet and you catch nothing and assume they are gone. Utah's biggest came from Lake Powell in 2009 at 3 pounds 5 ounces and 18 and a half inches, so the ceiling here is real.

Best time: Dusk into dark; spring spawn near brush
