Why Fish Here

Panguitch is on the state's Blue Ribbon list, and the rules there are more specific than most stillwater in Utah. You get four trout total, but no more than two cutthroat or tiger trout under 15 inches and only one over 22, and you cannot fillet trout or remove heads and tails in the field or in transit. The tributaries close January 1 until the second Saturday of July. Two feeder streams, Blue Springs Creek and Clear Creek, have their own boundaries in the rules.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Troll pop gear; slip bobber + crawler off the weed edges

Bait and lures: Crawlers, tube jigs, spoons

Best time: Morning. Season: May-Oct; famous ice fishing

Local tip: High-elevation trout soup - the name means 'big fish' in Paiute.
