Why Fish Here

This is a small stocked pond, and the honest pitch is convenience: you can fish it passing through Cedar City without rearranging your day. Rainbows are the main event, with bluegill mixed in for kids who would rather have steady bites than one big fish. A worm under a bobber handles both, and the last hour of light is the one worth showing up for. The Frontier Homestead museum is about a mile away if the bite dies.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Bobber + worm

Bait and lures: Worms, PowerBait

Best time: Evenings. Season: All year

Local tip: Quick stocked stop under the red hills.

Species Playbook

Rainbow Trout

Rig: Slip-bobber or sliding sinker rig, 4 lb line, size 8-10 baitholder hook

Bait: PowerBait (rainbow/garlic), nightcrawler, small spinners (Panther Martin, Jake's)

When: Early morning & last 2 hours before dark

Utah's #1 fish. If a pond got stocked this week, cast anything shiny. Perfect first fish for kids.

Bluegill & Sunfish

Rig: Worm under a small bobber, size 10 hook - that's it

Bait: Worms, mealworms, tiny jigs

When: All day long, all summer

THE kid fish. Pelican Lake grows bluegill the size of dinner plates.

Why fish Skyline Pond?
Because it is quick and low commitment, a stop rather than a destination. Rainbow trout and bluegill are what you will find, and light tackle with a worm covers both of them. It pairs well with a Cedar Breaks or Kanarra Falls day when you want an easy evening afterward.
