Use sunset as your turnaround alarm.
The pull here is a two-tier waterfall you reach on a moderate traverse instead of a summit push. You start at the Aspen Grove trailhead, 4.9 miles up the Alpine Loop from Provo Canyon, and grades stay between 10 and 20 percent the whole 1.9 miles in. The Forest Service calls it an excellent day hike for families and also warns that the social paths climbing around the falls are steep and dangerous, so stay on the main trail. Trailers are not allowed on the Alpine Loop.
200 ft two-tier falls behind Sundance. Aspens golden in late September.
