Why Go
This park exists because an Interstate 70 construction crew cut into the largest Fremont village anyone has found, back in the 1980s. What survives is the collection: pottery, baskets, and arrowheads in the museum, plus a replica pit house and rock art panels spread along Clear Creek Canyon at 5,900 feet. The canyon has been a travel corridor for a long time, used by Paiute people from around A.D. 1400 and improved into a wagon road by 1872. Castle Rock and Sam Stowe campgrounds are both on site.
