Why Go
The best part of this stop is what did not get built. Brigham Young planned a full statehouse for Fillmore in anticipation of statehood, and only the south wing was finished, by December 1855. The legislature held exactly one full session in it before the capital moved to Salt Lake City in 1858, which makes this the oldest existing government building in Utah and a monument to a plan that fell apart. The grounds hold three restored pioneer cabins and an 1867 stone schoolhouse.
