Why Target Them
Largemouth need warm, weedy, shallow water, which is not what most of Utah offers, so the good ones cluster in the south and in lowland ponds. The state record, 10 pounds 2 ounces, came from Lake Powell in 1974 and still stands, which tells you how rare a double-digit fish is here. The statewide limit is 6 bass combined with smallmouth, and community ponds cut that to 2 fish of any kind. Lake Powell caps largemouth at 5 a day, separate from its much higher smallmouth allowance.
