Cat kit: 2/0 circle hooks + liver after dark.
Sand Hollow is a warm, clear desert bass lake with an OHV dune field on one side of it, which tells you most of what the weekend feels like. You can camp on the beach, and divers use it too, so it is busier than most Utah bass water once the sun is up. The largemouth limit is eight of any size, and smallmouth carry no limit and may not be released, so know which one you have before it goes in the livewell. First light is yours if you want it quiet.
Best rigs: Drop shot & jigs on submerged dunes and rock; topwater at first light
Bait and lures: Plastics, frogs, worms
Best time: Dawn before the boats wake up. Season: March-November
Local tip: Bass live in the flooded sand-dune humps - fish 'the aquarium' clear water sight-casting.
Rig: Texas-rigged worm near weeds; wacky rig Senko
Bait: Senkos, jigs, frogs over pads, topwater at dawn
When: Dawn topwater, evenings; pre-spawn (April-May) is prime
Look for submerged brush, tules, and shade lines.
Rig: Worm under a small bobber, size 10 hook - that's it
Bait: Worms, mealworms, tiny jigs
When: All day long, all summer
THE kid fish. Pelican Lake grows bluegill the size of dinner plates.
Rig: 1/16 oz marabou jig 2-6 ft under a bobber near structure
Bait: White/pink jigs, minnows under a slip bobber
When: Dusk into dark; spring spawn near brush
Twitch it, pause it - the bite is a soft 'tick.' Powell's spring crappie bite is elite.
Rig: Carolina/sliding-sinker rig on bottom, circle hook
Bait: Nightcrawlers, chicken liver, hot dogs, stink bait, carp meat
When: Evening into night; hot summer nights are best
Utah Lake is a catfish factory - 30-fish nights happen.
