Why Fish Here

The mainstem Sevier between Hatch and Panguitch gets skipped because everyone is driving to Panguitch Lake or Bryce. It is also one of the few southern Utah trout streams with no special water rule attached, which means the statewide limit of four trout applies and you can still fish bait. One thing to sort out first is land status, since Utah law does not allow walking the streambed across private property closed to trespass. Use bridges, highway right-of-way and public ground to get in.

How To Fish It

Best rigs: Worm in the bends; hopper-dropper Aug

Bait and lures: Worms, hoppers, spinners

Best time: Evening. Season: May-October

Local tip: Overlooked meadows between Hatch and Panguitch.

Why fish Sevier River (Upper)?
Because it is quiet meadow water with browns and rainbows in an area people treat as a drive-through. Unlike the East Fork over by Bryce, the mainstem here carries no artificial-only restriction, so worms and spinners are legal under the standard four trout limit. It is an easy pairing with a Panguitch Lake trip, twelve miles away.
