Channel Catfish

Why Target Them

Channel cats are Utah's night shift. The statewide limit is eight a day, which is more fish than most people can eat, and Utah Lake is where the numbers live: the state record, 32 pounds 8 ounces, came out of it in 1978 and still stands. The other half of this fishery is the community ponds, which get catfish so people can catch them close to home, but those waters limit you to two fish a day. Bring pliers and a light, because the bite starts when you would normally leave.
