Tiger Trout

Why Target Them

Tiger trout are not a wild fish; they are a brown and brook cross that the DWR raises and stocks on purpose, and they appear on the state stocking report every year. What you get is a trout that hits like it is angry, which makes them a good target when the pickier fish shut off. Scofield produced the state record at 19 pounds 2 ounces and 37.5 inches in 2013. At Scofield you also cannot fillet trout or remove heads and tails in the field.

Why fish for Tiger Trout in Utah?
Because a tiger trout punches well above its size and it is one of the few trout that stays interested through the ice. They are a hatchery hybrid rather than a native fish, and they still count toward the statewide combined limit of 4 trout, which catches people out at waters with tighter rules.
